This morning, as I walked on the beach, I came across a woman drawing a heart in the sand and filling it with shells. It was beautiful and I was so focused on it as I walked by that I hadn't noticed that the woman's cell phone was laying on the sand, close to the heart. I almost stepped on it (luckily I didn't). Had I stepped back even a little bit to take in the bigger picture, I surely would have seen the phone.
Positions are like that. Sometimes we're so focused on our positions that we fail to see the other person's perspective. Or other options. Or solutions. We don't see the big picture. If we just step back from our positions, even a little bit, there is so much more to see.
