This past weekend the Florida Academy of Collaborative professionals held its annual conference in Delray Beach, Florida. Our keynote speaker, Hakim Lakhdar, was a dynamic motivator whose presentation was a model that has guided My Collaborative Team since its inception. Much of his talk followed our mantra that Confidence and Competence will help you build a bigger and better Collaborative practice.
Hakim discussed what is needed to branch out in the Collaborative world. It starts with self-leadership. Expanding Collaborative begins with you. Your inner work creates ripples that expand outward. We must all move beyond practitioners to bridge-builders. We must connect communities and approaches with purpose. Take bold action! Small steps in your immediate sphere create momentum for wider growth and impact. Your authentic connections and voice remain your most powerful instruments for impact.
He presented four steps for branching out.
- Reflect – Get clear on your “why” and the value Collaborative brings to other. This is your elevator speech that we have discussed many times in our blogs.
- Reconnect – Strengthen relationships that can expand awareness and trust.
- Recommit – Choose one bold action to champion the Collaborative Approach in your sphere.
- Repeat – Keep showing up, sharing, and leading – growth comes through consistency.
Join us on Friday Happy Hour. This is the best way to build your confidence, competence and achieve what Hakim suggests is the best way to Branch Out.
As I pointed out at the conclusion of Hakim’s presentation, which was excellent and very well received by the attendees, you can begin with small acts:
1) Invite a colleague to get trained in Collaborative;
2) invite a colleague to join a practice group; and
3) Invite a colleague to join you in attending Conferences or events revolving around the Collaborative Practice.
It may not seem like much, but every little bit helps grow Collaborative.

Ed, thank you so much for capturing and sharing the essence of my Opening Keynote Presentation at the FACP Annual Conference! As you know from our conversations, this is the work that I know and love so deeply and it was truly an honor to share it with you and your Collaborative colleagues! I loved the engagement and participation, and the positive and encouraging feedback following the talk was pretty wonderful too! Thank you and your team for giving me such insight and a strong foundation from which to build my talk.
