Sharon Comet-Epstein helps people facing divorce, custody, or
other family law matters who want to avoid nasty, costly litigation to reach agreements that are best for them and their families.
Sharon has extensive training and experience in litigation alternatives in mediation, collaborative and negotiation processes that help her clients to reduce stress, costs and hostilities and achieve their most important goals and satisfying settlements. Her
clients value her responsive, creative, and caring client-centered services.
As a second career attorney, Sharon has a rich and varied background including MS and PhD degrees from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in programs emphasizing communications, organizational behavior and negotiations.
She is a Past-President of the Center for Principled Family Advocacy (CPFA), currently chairs their Collaborative Practice Group, and is the current Vice-President of MANO, the Mediation Association of Northeast Ohio.
As a mediator, Sharon is a neutral facilitator and guide who assists both parties in resolving all their issues or disputes and in creating mutually acceptable agreements.
As an attorney in a collaborative process, Sharon counsels her client as they work with the other party and when necessary, a collaborative team, to resolve all issues and to create durable, livable agreements without the threat of court intervention.
Some of her cases require litigation or some degree of court involvement or other negotiation process. Sharon's goal is to advocate and help people achieve the best solutions and move on with their lives in emotionally and financially the best ways
possible--especially if children are involved.
Sharon also is a specially trained Parenting Coordinator and uses her conflict resolution, parenting, and parenting coordinator skills to help divorced parents resolve disputes and decrease the likelihood of returning to court.
Sharon graduated law school from CWRU in 1992, where she was an adjunct professor for over 13 years, teaching attorney-client communications, interviewing, counseling, negotiating, and oral persuasion skills. She is a popular trainer and speaker at professional, law school, continuing education and community sponsored programs. She also created and led Joint Conferences for Peacemakers for 5 consecutive years.
In addition to CPFA and MANO, Sharon is active in the Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) sections of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
